Tam Tams and Broken Hoop

Friday was a late start post drink fest. I was not hung over, but I slept in and took my time getting ready. I had been emailing the GM/main teacher of the Thai Massage school and he called me in the afternoon! It was sunny out, so I made some tea, put it in a to-go coffee mug thing... and went to the park. I really did not want to carry the Hitchhiker's Guide massive book thing with me out of Montreal, so I was determined to try and finish it soon.

I sat in the park and read for a while, but it was too cold! My hands were starting to freeze! I was not relaxed because the sun was not giving off much warmth even though it was unobstructed >:(

I ended up fleeing back for warmth. The house was expecting yet another couchsurfer bringing the total to four of us, plus Marco and Alex!

Here is Marco:

This next one was from Mexico City! He brought two bottles of Mexican Tequila, all three were welcomed...

All of us started trickling in cause of the cold, so it ended up being a full house. Then we all went out for African-style dinner! Marco had made reservations for a place he liked nearby, so all four of us plus Marco (Alex was nowhere to be found) all walked down and had this awesome dinner! We arrived late, but since we did we got a separate room all to ourselves downstairs! They served an insane amount of food (that all tasted good - I now know I like one kind of African food) and served this hibiscus flower juice... and a really nice tea with some kind of pastry thing that tasted amazing for desert. I can't remember the name of it right now though...

Ladonna was laying down from overeating:

Everyone left stuffed :) The tequila was opened when we came back, then we played Mario 3 on the projector, watched Robot Chicken (this is a favourite thing to introduce foreign people to as far a I could tell) and I sewed my patch onto my backpack :)

By the next morning I was feeling much much much less sick - it was gone minus some leftover goop in my nose and lungs. Hoorah!

Saturday was Shai day - the Thai massage instructor and I met up at the bottom of Mont Royal, and proceeded to go up it. It was super sunny out, although still a little bit cold. The little bit of cold ended up being good because I was hiking uphill and my body generally does not agree with hills.

We chatted, he pointed out this insanely huge cemetary and a big dome building thing on the other side of the mountain... The dome is St. Josef's Oratory, and they had a preserved human heart in a jar there from what he said. I decided this and the cemetary were going to have to be explored!

after hanging out in the park for a while, we made our way down towards a surprisingly reasonably priced vegan restaurant. There was so much food I could barely finish... but now I know that I like "coconut bacon"?!

Shai had to go to a potluck (they are common here I guess) so I went back home. Marco told me that Francis and people were watching the hockey game at a bar, and I was welcome to come down (he had to study) if I felt so inclined. I didn't want to sit around the house all night again, so I hopped on the bike.

Now, when I was leaving Shai I had mentioned that I wasn't sure what I was doing that night, but I didn't really feel like going out and getting really really drunk and having another epic night......... but guess what happened lol.

Pitchers are tricky! You don't count how many you've had, and when you are watching hockey you drink without noticing. Thus I would up very drunk. I remember people ordered poutine to the bar haha. That reminded me of New Orleans. I also remember talking to people, having a good time, and walking my bike up the hill cause some person was walking me to the house. I stumbled in, walked into the sea of pullout beds while trying to heat up Aftrican leftovers. I ate said leftovers, rambled to Marco, and fell asleep.

I was rudely awakened at 7am though by a surprising thing: vomit. I don't think I'd thrown up on the whole three month journey! I didn't think I was THAT drunk. I actually felt hung over, and if you know me that is not a pretty sight.

I forced myself up though, late, and dragged my ass to the tam tams. I was meaning to go for the past age, and I wasn't going to wait another week. The tam tams was a giant drum circle from what I had been told... but it was still early for it to be really big. I went, and there were drums, but it wasn't insanely crowded or anything, plus it was too windy to sell earrings cause they would blow all over the place (my set up was also not ideal).

I hung over-hula hooped for a bit. That was good until the spinning started to be bothersome. A nice punk girl with poi used the second one while I had one, and occasionally I would try her poi. A punk looking guy also played with the hoop. This guy had a crazy rope type thing that I did not try. It was like one super long poi that he would twist around his arms and stuff, looked pretty cool. He was rough with my hoop though, so while I was reading he approached me...

he broke one of my hoops! Irreversibly broken too - the connector piece had been smashed right off! He was super sad about it, but for some reason I wasn't freaking out. It was just one piece that broke, I could deal with that. He looked pretty poor too, so I couldn't expect him to do anything about it other than feel bad, which he did. *sigh*

I came home freezing my ass off. I was shivering like a crazy person, and desperately needed some more food and warmth.

I made some tea, grabbed my rice cakes, and lay down on the couch in the kitchen thinking about what other food to make. I fell asleep on this couch, and woke up a couple hours later deciding on soup. It was a good choice - I ended up playing Dr, Mario on the projector with Marco feeling like a normal person. I beat him at level 17 on medium speed when he was on level three on slow speed. I like that game ;)

Carlos came back with a pizza. He had ordered this giant pizza, and we all sat down and watched a Spanish movie called Volver with Penelope Cruz. I really liked it - the plot was twisted but funny which is such a good combination.

I could see a lot of potential in Montreal, but the cold fucking drives me CRAZY.
