Alrighty, here we go!
Friday started late. I had drank a lot the previous night, plus Finn was gone so I was sleeping in a bed woooo! I didn't leave it till almost four; hadn't done that since New Orleans (that happened more times than I'd like to mention out there... at least I wasn't going to bed till 6:30-8:00am). I wasn't hung over when I finally got out of bed, so once things got started I had energy :)
I met Ari, her friends, Norah, and the band down at Temple Bar.
This has someone else playing Guitar, Duncan was around somewhere...
They were just finishing playing, so Ari and her friends from Spain and I all went to the Mezz. The band was putting stuff away so they'd be there later. We started drinking...
The Mezz is an interesting place... kind of like a dance bar, but too packed to actually dance... plus there is fuseball so that doesn't really fit. I think it's the lights that make it seem dance-like.
I met some people... there was a guy from Port Moodey there which was fucked. I ended up dancing to Bob Marley at some point haha. Eventually I got kinda tired, and I think the place was shutting down. I wanted drunk food.
A few others also wanted drunk food too. Duncan, Tomas (don't know if that's the right spelling at all) and this other guy (can't remember if I'd met him already) also from Czech republic bought some food at the store and went back to their house. They made pasta while watching this hilarious Czech movie named "Noc na Karštejně (A Night at the Karlštejn)" from the 80's. It's about a castle that wouldn't allow women, but women either sneak in of their own volition, or get snuck in... cheesy and awesome.
I was getting super irritable though. I REALLY wanted to go to sleep (weird since I had not been awake THAT long) and I was hungry. Bad combination. I was very cranky, and kept thinking about how if I had just eaten a burger and walked straight home I would be asleep already. In retrospect, that sucks because it had all the makings of a fun time :s
I got my hula hoops from the house and walked home at 5:30 at the earliest. It was light out again!
Sooooo the next day I didn't sleep in as much thank god. There was a couch surfing barbeque going on in Phoenix Park - the biggest walled city park in all of Europe. It was far enough that I wanted a bus there, so I walked into town to catch one.
There were a million buses, but none of them had the number I needed! It took a while before it arrived, but once it did it was a quick ride to the park :) I walked in and was immediately lost haha.
Phoenix Park is MASSIVE and of course my lonely planet book doesn't have a map including it. I was going from memory... they had put up a map with a dot showing where in the park it was going to be, but I didn't go in the main entrance and had no idea where in the park I was to start... plus it was so big the dot was turning out to be very vague directions indeed...
It was a beautiful day though, so wandering around aimlessly was working out fine.
I found the visitor's centre, aquired a map, and still ended up giving up. I figured it would be over so I was just walking down a lane (after walking for TWO HOURS) to exit when I walked straight into the BBQ.
There was still a lot of people there! I was not the only one who had been wandering for hours too, so there was lots of people still eating and cooking too :)
The hula hoops were an instant hit. I don't think they stopped being used until I left.
The turnout was good too - people from all over! Over 30 people I'd say. The food was being cooked by chefs, so that was also a plus. I ended up sticking around later than I thought I would, about 8 or so, and walking back with a fellow couchsurfer to the bus stop :)
I got back to town around nine after all the walking and waiting for the bus... and ran into Ari and Pepe in Temple Bar on my way back! They were heading to Shebeen Chic, but I was sick of carrying my hoops around, and wanted to go home. I chatted with Norah for a bit first though. On the walk back, I ran into another person from the BBQ! Small town!
I was hungry so he joined me while I ate a ghetto greasy burger. After this it was getting late fast, so by the time I got to the house I didn't feel like going all the way back. It was after eleven so I thought "meh" and stayed in for the night :) It was nice sitting on the couch, talking to people, knowing I was not going to have to walk home for half an hour after!
good times, good times :)
