It had called for rain on the internet, but it was sunny when I got up! This was my last day at Gulsah's, so I took a picture of the awesome view from the apartment she shared with her dad:
I was switching house to a place very central in Taksim. I looked up how to get there and contacted my host Jennifer to see if someone would be at the house. Someone was so I got my bag together, did my last check, and headed out the door!
I followed the way we'd gone yesterday to get to Taksim Square. Emre and I had driven by the house the night before so I wouldn't get lost and it worked! I found it pretty quick and sure enough someone was at the house.
This house was inhabited by two Canadians, a Turkish guy that had lived in Canada for 5 years, and an American. Paolos was from Ontario so we sat on the couch and chatted for a while. I immediately felt super comfortable in this place, so it was a mental effort to get myself up off the couch and go exploring. Paolos didn't have to work until 7pm, so he came with me!!
Hagia Sofia:
Me in front of the Blue Mosque:
Paolos told me about the underground Cistern they found in Istanbul while digging for some other reason.
This place was so cool; The pictures really don't do it justice...
Here is someone's else's on Fickr where you can see the wooden walkway you explore the area on... it really is a stunning place.
After the Basilica Cistern we did a bit of walking but Paolos had to go to work. I slowly made my way back to the house via tram and funicular with a minor adventure following tram lines and trying to refill my little transit button thing. I made it though, and met Jennifer, Sheri, and Timur. Another Canadian came by that was just passing through as well, so we all ate lovely Russian pancakes/crepes made by Sheri. This was some serious tasty business :)
After this we ended up watching things on the computer hooked up to the TV, then attempted Cranium Canadian Edition. I hadn't played in ages, so I wasn't much help to the team, but we still kicked ass :D
I had a really good time and went to bed very stoked to be in this house :)
