I woke up still tired from the night before, so I knew leaving early was the right choice.
I decided to carry my thirty five pound package over to the post office to mail finally – this was no easy task with no handles on the box, plus I was tired sick and it was hot out.
Erin you better like those beads hahah. Good for festive parties!
I came back right away and started on laundry etc. My throat was bothersome so I went to the store to get ginger root, lemon, and chicken noodle soup. I started to cook it, and let it steep while Minka and I took Fawkes to the dog park. We decide to making some dinner, so Fawkes was walked back home and then we’re off to the market for food. Even after eating I was still tired so I made it a reading night.
Unfortunately, the sickness did not leave on Tuesday. However, it was such a beautiful day I could not spend it inside! I took my bike and went to a park to lay down and read. It was satisfying :) Upon arriving, leftovers were eaten followed by a cookie run. I showed Paul Langley via Google Maps, and he showed me Albequerque! I was starting to feel like I should be eventually progressing on my travels, so I ended up researching and buying my tickets to New York and Montreal. It was cool to feel like a traveler again!
Wednesday I still felt like a giant pile of crap. I cleaned out my backpack, tried to reorganize things a little now that I knew I was leaving, and I ended up finishing my book! It was awesome. I also gave in around dinner and took some daytime medication.
you know what's weird - most pill dosages are two pills here, and big ones at that, packaged together. They sure work though! I started feeling less like I was rubbing my nose off, and ended up meeting up with Levi at Molly’s. After one beer I felt muuuuuuuch better (mwahahaha). We ended up at the abbey, flanagans (of course), r bar… by then I was drunk which made the bike back a lot more fun... I took Nyquil and tried to watch Best in Show, but that was impossible. Sleep was unavoidable. FYI Nyquil also doesn't have codeine in it down here.
I woke up still not congested wahoo!
The previous day I had made arrangements with another couchsurfer to meet up and get some food, so after doing some general errandy stuff I met up with Ryan and we tried out Coop’s, a seemingly always busy place. It was yummy seafood/cajun stuff.
As a result of mass text messaging, we decided to go to Minka’s work on Bourbon Street and visit her and Joey whom was visiting her there. This was ideal because Ryan’s a paramedic that just moved to NOLA three days previous, and Joey has been an EMT for years! It was well matched – they were medi-speaking in no time. I felt like a matchmaker heheh.
Here is Joey and Minka, two of my hosts:
We ended up walking down to Frenchman street, and hung out at the Spotted Cat listening to a band sitting on a bench in the perfect night weather. A random model girl and her photographer boyfriend from Detroit ended up talking to us for a while, then they came out with us to Flanagan’s. I tried to play pool which was a disaster as always…
We ordered drunk food to Flanagan's, ate, drank and were merry. I was glad that I could be a sort of couchsurfing-facilitator-person plus bring people in from Detroit too :) Levi showed up around food time, kicked people's ass at pool, and then we left.
I ran into the model and the photographer walking down the street the next day! Small town eh. Well, I delivered hand creme to soon-to-be-tattoed-some-more Levi, ate on Frenchman street and biked home. I remember watching lots of Daily Shows and Colbert Reports with Minka and Paui. By the time that was over, Robin had invited me to Circle Bar. She scooted me down with her (I had not actually been on a scooter before! It was so cute!) and we proceeded to have an awesome time :)
We danced, I requested David Bowie and they played magic dance (which I was not expecting) – it made me happy! Tried a very nice gin associated with cucumbers... I ended up taking a cab back to Robin's and watching part of kill bill 2 before mysteriously falling asleep on the floor....
