Saturday was the Fuckparade. As you may have heard, Berlin used to have this massive thing called the Love Parade. This was now circulating different cities annually so it wasn't in Berlin. Instead now people have this "parade" to promote alternative and musical culture, and to protest against people trying to force clubs or dj places to close earlier or turn the volume down etc. That's the impression I got anyhow. It makes sense though and I agreed with what they were saying. Music is so vital, and if places have always been allowed to stay open really late then why try to change it now? What for?
Essentially the parade itself consisted of about 16 trucks with big sound systems on the backs and DJ's. The different trucks would play different electronic music. People dance behind them. If you didn't like the music playing out of one truck, you either walked up to the next ones or stood and waited for a few to go by until you found one you liked.
I had my hula hoops at this event, and my tattoo showing, so I was meeting people every five minutes or so. I have no idea how many people took my picture, but it never seemed to stop. I was having a blast! Carson and I met up with a friend from the night before, and also more CS people before it started moving. I found Rodrigo and some more CS people en route as well :)
It was a big slowly moving street party with loads of electro music - how could I not have fun at this?!?!
The parade stopped moving near a ubahn station which was perfect, so a few of us went to a different electronic party in this park. It was getting dark, and kind of cold... so eventually we went to the afterparty of the parade at this crazy place named Tacheles. It used to be a squat so it's covered in artwork/graffiti, several levels, couple dance floors, sandy outside area, several bars, stage... its huge. I watched this blues style band downstairs and talked to some Aussies for a while. The people I came with were scattered so I was all over the place. Somehow it was 5:30am and we were eating spicey thai soup as the sky got light. It was time to take the Ubahn home.
